Soon Ang (Ph.D. Minnesota) is the Distinguished University Professor in Management at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
Soon Ang is a recognized world authority in Cultural Intelligence (CQ), global leadership, and outsourcing.
She pioneered and co-authored two foundation books on CQ (Stanford University Press) and co-edited the Handbook of Cultural Intelligence (ME Sharpe). Her work has significant impact in the fields of international management, education, industrial-organizational psychology, military psychology, and strategy. Her ideas on CQ have been described as the most cogent, well researched, and comprehensive. Psychology Today even called CQ “an essential intelligence for the 21st century” (see here). She has recently created and validated a series of multi-media situational judgment tests for assessing and developing CQ for individuals and organizations.
Soon Ang is associate editor of the Academy of Management Discoveries – the leading-edge journal from the Academy of Management devoted to innovative, evidence- and phenomenon-based research in management. She was past senior editor of MIS Quarterly,Information Systems Research, Journal of Association of Information Systems; associate editor of Decision Sciences and Cross Cultural Management, consulting editor of Management and Organization Review, and on editorial boards of Organization Science, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Applied Psychology: An International Review, and others.
She has a prolific publication record and won numerous prestigious Best Paper and Editorial awards with the Academy of Management, Association of Computing Machinery, Association of Information Systems, Decision Sciences, and Human Relations.
Her award winning papers are published in top journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Management Science, MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Organization Science, Communications of the ACM, Management & Organization Review, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Human Resource Management, Communications of AIS, Decision Sciences, Group & Organization Management, Journal of Management Education, Journal of Social Issues, Journal of Organizational Behavior, ACM SIGMIS Database, and others.
She has consulted and conducted research for major corporations and government bodies, including Singapore Airlines, British Petroleum, Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Manpower, Housing & Development Board, Information Development Authority/National Computer Board, Singapore Armed Forces Military Institute, Judicial Council of California, the International Air Transport Association, Civil Service College, Singapore, etc.
Among the many other awards that Soon Ang received are the Distinguished University Professor Award, NTU Singapore; the Long Service Medal and the Public Administrative Medal (Silver) from the President of the Republic of Singapore; the Distinguished Leadership Award for International Alumni for the University of Minnesota; and the first Nanyang Award for Research and Innovation in the Social Sciences, which is the highest recognition on outstanding research given by NTU.
